Affiliate Disclosure
SpinToRead uses affiliate links. This page explains what that means, how it works, and what it does not affect. Being clear about this is important to us.
What Are Affiliate Links?
The basics
An affiliate link is a link to a product — in our case, almost always a book on Amazon — that includes a small tracking code. When you click that link and make a purchase on Amazon (the book you clicked, or anything else you buy in the same session), we earn a small commission. The price you pay is exactly the same as if you had gone to Amazon directly.
The commission is typically between 1% and 5% of the purchase price. On a £12 paperback, that is somewhere between 12p and 60p. It is a small amount per sale — but across many readers, it adds up enough to keep this site running without charging readers or putting content behind a paywall.
Which Programmes We Use
Current affiliate relationships
SpinToRead participates in the following affiliate programmes:
- —Amazon Associates — As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases made through Amazon links on this site. This applies to both Amazon.com (US) and Amazon.co.uk (UK).
SpinToRead does not currently participate in any other affiliate programmes. If this changes, this page will be updated.
What Affiliate Links Do Not Affect
Editorial independence
The presence of an affiliate link does not affect which books are recommended, in what order they appear, or what is written about them. SpinToRead does not:
- —Choose books to recommend based on commission rates
- —Adjust editorial tone to make an affiliate book sound better than it is
- —Accept payment from publishers or authors for placement in any guide or list
- —Omit critical observations about a book because an affiliate link is present
A recommendation is only worth anything if it is honest. If a book has problems worth mentioning — a difficult start, unresolved plot threads, content that will put off certain readers — we say so, affiliate link or not.
FTC Disclosure Compliance
Regulatory requirement
Under Federal Trade Commission (FTC) guidelines in the United States, website owners are required to disclose material connections to products or services they recommend. Using affiliate links constitutes a material connection, and we are required to disclose this clearly.
This page serves as that disclosure. Affiliate links throughout the site are used to link to books on Amazon. No deception is intended, and no other undisclosed material relationship exists between SpinToRead and any publisher, author, or retailer.
